Carrot Tails

Post by calliecopter on Sun Aug 28, 2011 8:04 am

Now, I've seen quite a few carrot tails and I think it's pretty cute, but I have a question about it. If a leo drops its tail, will the carrot tail grow back? Just something I was thinking about while I was at Petco this afternoon.

Whenever a leopard gecko drops its tail it will grow back, but it won't be the exact same size, shape, or color of its previous tail. It may be shorter, or look deformed, or may be a different shade then it was before.
For a carrot tail its probably the same. It won't grow back the exact same color (I'm guessing).

That's what I figured. Thanks for responding though!

+1. The outcome is always varied from the original tail.

I've seen some interesting things happen to regenerated carrot tails.

If the whole tail breaks off then it sort of grows back with just a bit of orange on it, like the percentage of ornage it started with.

If it breaks off past the orange, then no more orange will grow back.
But interestingly if it breaks off within the orange section of the carrot tail, i've seen tails grow back fully orange.

That'd be something, not that I'd put an animal through that to see the orange tail but, haha.
