Ornate Box Turtle

Post by mued2001 on Tue Apr 26, 2011 6:55 am

This is my ornate box turtle, Buddy. He is the only pet we have right now, but I am working on more. The leopard gecko is at the Boys & Girls Club where I work. Since I love reptiles, I was put in charge of caring for her.

He is extremely endangered in WI. There are fewer than five known ornate box turtles left int he wild here and I have to have a special educator license to possess him He is incredibly curious and personable.

Yeah, I'd totally use my special permit to score with the ladies, but my wife said no. Actually, the the Department of Natural Resources here was shocked when I called to turn myself in for possessing an endagered species. They said I could keep him since box turtles cannot be returned to the wild if they are taken from the place where they were born. I would like to find him a lady friend to restore his species, but they are hard to come by.

Haha, im sure they dig it.

It would be a good idea to breed em, but if there is 5 owners that own all 5 your all gonna want to get another owners turtle, so i don't see anyone giving em up. I wish you luck with that though.
